Carp Fly Swap - Be There or Be Square

I would like to propose the first annual Fly-Carpin carp fly swap.  Details are admittedly vague as of now, but the gist of it would be that participants would mail 10 copies of their favorite carp fly to me with a small shipping fee and a materials list and maybe even tying directions and description on how they fish it.  I would sort the flies, compile materials lists / directions and then each participant would get an assortment of 10 flies back in the mail.

If it looks like I have a chance of getting at decent turn-out I will refine the details and publicize it a little further.  Anybody in?

  1. OK, we got Chris Galvin (an Urban South Platte carp guide if you ever need one), Lonny Garris and Matt Pike in from facebook. Maybe Eric Ridenour from Big EZ world if he grows some balls. Hope he doesnt catch that because pretty sure he could break me like a twig!

Matt Pike added this link of a sweet lookin fly:

  4. Wait a minute...Mctage (of primordial carp fame) and Pat FREAKING Cohen are in? Done deal, count me in, but for the record, I fish much better than I tie.

  5. Well John, none of us is Pat Freaking Cohen! Besides, your flies have probably caught more and bigger carp than just about anybody in the country!

I think that is enough to say we can make it happen (Somes good mores better so keep it coming though!). I will get more details out there this week and put the word out in other ways. See if we can't get something cool going.

  12. John - I hope so. I was seriously bummed that it fizzled on CAG last year.
Lonny - No problem, should be fun.
    Austin - In.
Gregg - Dont stress, with this many people we are going to do this so that we each tie a set of 10 of a single pattern and I will randomly sort them. We wont all get the same package, but that way we arent all chained to a vice for a week tying 20 plus flies.

  13. John Jensen from the blog Currents is in and Justin from fishing and thinking in Minnesota is thinking about dropping the legion of doom on our sorry butts.

  16. I'm hesitant to throw my name into this hat. This is some pretty fast company. But what the heck. I'll join if you still need some folks.

  17. Eric, J Stockard is an online company I have used a time or two and been satisfied with. Let me get my head above water in the next couple of days and I will send you a materials list to order and a video to watch for a cool fly not too dissimilar to the one you posted yesterday.

  18. Ty - Two of the three carp addicts I know of named Ty are now in. Who knew that back in the day all kids named Ty would be such non-conformists.
