Video Editorial on Bow Fishing for Carp and Leaving them to Rot

  1. Agreed. No issue with a guy killing and using a few fish...but I hate to see this stuff. I see it all too often out here too.

    1. I remember seeing a good number of corpses last time I fished with you. Was a bummer.

  2. Agree with your message. Were those carp all showing signs of arrow punctures? In Iowa we had a pretty harsh winter and my local carp waters looked similar to your video. However, the fish were killed from a lack of oxygen (long period of snow covered ice, no sun reaching plants that produce oxygen in winter). It's June and my carp flats are just finally rid of the rotten smell.

  3. I was actually fly fishing in amongst the bow fishermen several times this year. Even had cordial exchanges with some who were packing out their kills. 100% positive these were bow killed.

  4. Lame, they could at least take them home and use them for fertilizer...

  5. See it every year out here on F lake. Bums me out.

  6. I felt like I was watching a commercial with Sarah Mclachlan.
I do agree however. I know a guy who bow hunts like crazy in west Mississippi. He probably kills thousands a year. But he is adamant in never wasting them. He will bring barrels full of the things to locals after a night of bow fishing. And they couldn't be happier in taking them for their consumption. He also does this on lakes that would be impossible to fly fish for them, so it wouldn't affect me anyhow (it requires his airboat to get to them).

    1. I know, it was a little cheesy. I almost didn't publish it. I felt like a commercial with Sarah Mclachlan and I don't even know who that is. Good for him.

  8. We have that sort of carnage around here too. At the very least I think bow hunting over spawners should be prohibited. Not much sport in that at all. This is a bit of a dilemma for me because I have several avid hunters in my family and they occasionally bow hunt for carp and gar. I may not get invited to Christmas dinner this year.

    1. Seeing as how I can reach out and poke spawners with my rod tip all the time I tend to agree.

  9. Well, that was good, well said. I detest those guys, here I have never, ever, seen a carp so shot utilized in any way. We live in a big time hunting family as well, and everyone who fishes as well looks at them as I do.

    1. I hear about lots of guys who utilize thier kill in various creative ways that fit the bill, at least as far as I am concerned. I am not gonna put all bow hunters in the same bin - probably wouldn't be fair. That said, the ones who don't do this should understand that the guys who do make them look bad. Really bad.

    1. You know lots of things you shouldn't. Like whether or not dolphins and herons are tasty. Second hand knowledge. Of course.
